A Hidden Past

Chapter 2

Disclaimer: Don't own um.

Katie Sanada slept soundly in her warm bed bundled up in her covers. After the nightmare she had been so tired that she hadn't heard the alarm clock when it had went off. Christine opened the door and walked over to her bed. She shook her gently trying to wake her. It didn't work, she just swatted at her and rolled over. Christine placed her hands on her hips and glared at her sleeping friend.
"Katie Sanada, get your lazy butt up now. You have to get ready for school!" Christine shouted angrily at her. Katie whined and rolled over. Opening two very tired eyes she glared daggers at her best friend. Christine gulped and backed away from her.
"Now, now it wasn't my idea. Your brother told me I had to wake you up. Don't kill the messenger." Christine lied hoping she'd buy it and not hurt her. She held her hands up in defense as she did.
Katie sighed and stretched. She sat up in bed and ran a hand through her shoulder length brown hair. She then looked over at her clock, it read 6:30 a.m. "Aiyah!" Katie shouted as she jumped out of bed and with one swift movement grabbed her stuff and ran in the direction of the bathroom.
Christine blinked as she stood in shock at what she had just seen. "She's up and moving around that fast without even one latte? Amazing." She mused to herself and walked out of the bedroom and back downstairs.

Katie stood in the shower letting the hot water fall on her. Once again the events of the nightmare came back to her. She shook her head not wanting to remember it. Turning off the water she grabbed her towel and got out of the shower. She dried off and got dressed. She then stared at herself in the mirror. Striking blue eyes looked back at her. She smiled at her reflection.
She then grabbed her hair brush and brushed her hair out. Then she grabbed the hair dryer and started to dry her hair. As she did she thought about her dream. "What does it mean? What is that thing?" she thought. "Maybe I should tell Ryo. At least then maybe he wouldn't be too mad at me." Katie looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. "Nah," she said as she shook her head.
When she was done she turned the hair dryer off and sat it back on the shelf. Grabbing her tooth brush she put some tooth paste on it and started to brush her teeth. She rinsed her mouth out and wiped her face off with a towel. With one last look in the mirror she walked out and downstairs.
Walking into the kitchen she was greeted by the smell of coffee and pancakes. "Hmmmm....something smells good," she said as she walked in and sat down next to Ryo.
"Morning, Katie." Cye said as he placed a plate of hot pancakes on the table and smacked Kento's hand when he tried to take one.
"Hi," she replied as she yawned.
"Good morning, Katie." Sage said as he smiled his famous smile that made all the girls go crazy.
Katie smiled back as she got up to get some coffee. "Hi, Sage," she replied. Pouring herself a cup of coffee she added cream and sugar to it. Lots of sugar. I have to make through school some way, she thought to herself. She then carefully walked back over to the table and sat back down.
Cye came back over with a plate of toast and a plate eggs. Sitting them down he said "Dig in." Kento immediately started piling food onto his plate while everyone else fought to get something.
"Hey, Kento, stop hogging the food." Christine shouted at him.
"Yea some of us would like some breakfast too." Rowen added as he desperately tried to at least get something.
Katie only laughed as she watched Cye, Rowen, Sage, Ryo, Mia and Christine try desperately to get some food. Shaking her head as she smiled. It wasn't unusual for this kinda thing, in fact it was normal. Kento practically ate all the food while everyone else fought to get some food from the hungry Ronin. White Blaze walked over to her and sat down next to her. He purred and rubbed his head against her leg, demanding attention. She smiled and reached down to pet the over sized house cat as she drank her coffee.
"Aren't you going to eat, sis?" Ryo asked her, snapping her out of her thoughts and back to the real world.
She shook her head. "No, I'm not that hungry, and I don't feel like battling Kento for something."
Ryo nodded and laughed some. "Yea, I understand. Hey, Kento, that's mine!"
"Sorry, I didn't see your name on it anywhere." Kento replied sarcastically as he ate Ryo's piece of toast.
Breakfast ended and surprisingly everyone who wanted something to eat got something before Kento of Hardrock ate it all. Everyone put the finishing touches on getting ready and grabbed their book bags. Walking outside they all filed into Mia's Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sage got elected to drive since the last time Katie drove they all had been afraid they weren't going to make it to school in one piece. She pouted but got in the back and then they were off to the last place on earth they wanted be, school.
Sometime that morning they all made it to school and managed to get inside before the bell rang. Amazing yes, but they did. Throwing their things in their lockers and grabbing what books they needed they all ran to their classes. Katie, Christine and Cye ran into class and sat down. Heaving a huge sigh of relief that the sensei wasn't in the classroom yet. Christine sat next to Katie while Cye sat two seats behind them.
Christine sat back in her seat and looked around the classroom. Katie sat in her chair backwards and chatted with a few of the kids who sat behind her. From the corner of her eye she watched as C.J. Michaels the school loser came walking up to her. Oh boy here goes detention number one, she thought as she rolled her eyes.
"Hey babe, what's a chick like you doin today?" he said into her ear as he grabbed a chair and pulled it up next to her.
She smirked to herself at how much of an ass he really was. "Oh you know jus the usual. Trying to stay away from the local losers." She answered him sarcastically.
He smirked at her and draped an arm around her shoulders. She brushed it off and looked away from him. "And when you say losers you would be referring to me?"
Katie put a surprised look on her face." Oh my god there are some brains in that head of yours."
C.J. seemed to have gotten the message that she was making fun of him because he went from smiling to looking very mad. He then grabbed her elbow harshly and pulled her closer to him. "You know if I were you I'd be little bit nicer to me or something bad might happen to you."
Katie growled, now he had gone way to far. How dare he grab her arm. At that moment she didn't care what kind of trouble she got into. She was gonna teach this lamo vado a lesson or two. She jerked her arm away form him and stood up, glaring at him. "Just who do you think you are?"
He stood up and smirked at her, "No need to get your panties all in a bunch, babe." By this time they had the attention of everyone in the class. Christine and Cye came up behind her, standing by her side.
"Something going on here?" Cye asked looking at C.J.
"Yea, but nothing that involves you, Mouri." He said and glared at him.
Cye just smirked back, "Well, you see it involves my friend so it does involve me. Now why don't you just turn and walk away from her right now."
"Yea and why don't you jus mind your own business like I said before Mouri and get out of my way." He said angrily and started to walk towards Katie. Katie stood where she was, glaring at him. Seeming to not be afraid of him in anyway. Christine stood next to her with her arms crossed. Cye stood in his way, not letting him pass. C.J. growled and was about to shove Cye out of the way when Sensei came walking in. He took one look at the crowd of kids around Katie, Christine, Cye and C.J. and crossed his arms.
"Something going on here that I should know about?" He asked. Katie kept her glare pointed at C.J., but said nothing. C.J. shook his head and walked away back to his seat.
"Good, then would you all please take your seats then and turn to page 110."

Ryo sat at his desk absently tapping his pencil on his desk. He had long since tuned out to what the sensei was saying. He sighed and looked over at Sage. He was as usual flirting. He smirked to himself. "Living up to his name. Flirt king of Han a' High." Ryo thought to himself. He then looked over at Rowen or boy genius. Smartest guy in their school. He was busy paying attention as usual. How he could actually be interested in this stuff was a mystery to him He could barely stay awake let alone pay attention.
He looked over his shoulder at Kento, class clown as the senseis called him. He had a rubber band in one hand and a tweeter in the other, getting ready to let it go and hit Rowen in the back of his head. Ryo shook his head. Kento was at it again, being the 'class clown'. He wished he'd hit Sage instead who was busy flirting with the cute blonde next to him. Ryo suddenly got an idea and opened up a mind link with Kento. Just before he did Kento had let go of the tweeter, sending it flying right for Rowen's head. Making contact Kento tried not to laugh as the blue hair genius rubbed his head and turned around to glare at him.

'Nice shot, Kento.'
'Thanks, but I think I'm in for it later.'
'Yea, so do I. He looks pretty pissed.'
'Yea, I know. So what do ya want?'
'Oh nothing much. I just wanted you to shoot one of your tweeters at Sage."
'No prob, I was wanting to get Mr. Hot stuff anyway."
'Thanks.'
'No prob.'
(For all of you who are sitting there thinking what are they talking about, a tweeter is a piece of paper folded into along strip that's folded in half and shot at people using a rubber band. There I told you all. Now you can't say anything.)
Kento folded another piece of paper and readied it. He pointed it at the unsuspecting Sage. Letting it go it went flying through the air and hit him in the head. Sage went from smiling and flirting to having a look of pure rage in a matter of 30 seconds. Kento grinned at the now out raged Sage of Halo. Sage smirked back at him. Kento knew he was in for it later. Ryo looked at Sage and chuckled, then folded his arms behind his head and leaned back in his chair.
Rowen looked over at Sage and knew Kento would be in for it later. He chuckled to himself. "I guess I won't have to get him back after all. Sage'll do it for me." He thought and turned his attention back to the sensei as he rambled on about the history of China.
Two hours later it was lunch time. The guys all filed into the lunch room and sat at their usual table and started to eat. Sage as usual had a hoard of girl around him which the guys wouldn't have minded if they weren't hanging all over Sage. Cye was trying to keep Kento from eating his lunch and his. Rowen was reading and eating at the same time. How I don't know.
Then Katie and Christine walked into the lunch room. They were busy chatting and laughing as they got in line to get some food. Paying for it they walked over to the where the guys were waiting. On the way most of the jocks stopped eating or talking and watched as they both walked over to the table, whispering things to each other and pointing at them. A few of them whistled and Christine and Katie both rolled their eyes and kept walking. Reaching the table they both sat down
."Hey guys." Christine said as she sat next to Rowen who was busy reading.
"Hey." Katie said flatly as she sat next to Sage. She looked over at the girls that were all drooling over him and rolled her eyes, taking a drink of her pop.
"Hey you two, anything new today? Hear any good news?" Ryo asked them.
"No, oh yea thanks, Cye." Katie said and smiled at him.
"For what?" Cye asked sounding confused.
"For sticking up for me this morning." Katie replied.
"Oh, yea, you're welcome." Cye said as he slapped Kento's hand.
Ryo stopped what he was doing and looked over at Katie. "What do you mean sticking up for me?"
"C.J. was giving me some problems this morning and Cye stood up for me." Katie said like it was no big deal.
Ryo didn't look to happy about it though. Hearing that the jerk was messing with his little sis really upset him. "Oh he did, did he?"
"Yea, but its no biggie. I can handle it." Katie said as she looked around the lunch room. Absently drinking her pop as she looked for one person in particular. "And speaking of which I have something I need to finish." Ryo looked at her, following her gaze he noticed who she was looking at. "Katie, don't, the last thing you need is another detention today."
"What?" She asked innocently. "I was jus gonna go talk to him."
Ryo smirked at her, "Yea right, I know you missy. You never jus 'talk' to them. You get up and I'll be forced to drag you back and hold you in my lap."
"Ryo...." She looked the look on his face and knew he was serious. "Yea, ok I'll jus 'talk' to him later than."
Sage looked over at Katie and just then noticed she was there. He turned so he was facing her, completely forgetting about the other girls. "Hey Katie. Did I tell you, you look breath taking today?" Katie giggled some and rolled her eyes, looking over at him she smiled. "No, I don't think you have."
"Well, you do. You look very beautiful, but then again you always look beautiful." He said as he smiled at her. Resting his head on his hand he looked her over from head to toe, liking what he saw.
Katie blushed slightly. "Well, thanks, Sage. Coming from you I guess it means a lot." She said and looked over at him. Why am I blushing? Yea sure he's hot and all, but come on get a grip Katie. Don't give in to his charm and seductive smile. Be strong! She thought to herself. Christine looked over at Sage and Katie. She smiled to herself. "I have to get those two together somehow." She thought. "But how?" She then looked over at Ryo who was watching and listening to what Sage and Katie were talking about. He smiled knowing his sister had a crush on Sage. That's when it hit her. Ryo can help me. She started to devise a plan in her head as she thought of this.
