A Hidden Past.
Chapter 4.
Upon reaching home everyone got out of the car as Ryo and Sage got a sound asleep Katie out of the car. Sage grabbed Ryo and Katie’s book bags while Ryo carried Katie inside. Kento got the door for him while Ryo carried her in. Christine followed after him. Cye, Rowen and Sage cam in and met a very worried looking Mia. Kento came in and closed the door. Sage sat their book bags by the front door while Cye and Rowen sat down on the couch. Kento headed for the fridge and that left him to deal with the worried Mia.
“What happened to her?” Mia asked motioning upstairs.
Sage sighed and ran a hand through his blond locks. “We think she’s just tired, but we’re not sure.”
“Oh, well I thought something bad had happened to her. Like you guys had, had a run in with the Dynasty or something.” Mia said as she sat down.
Rowen and Cye chuckled some at her statement and relaxed. Ryo and Christine came back down stairs from putting Katie to bed. Sage, Rowen and Cye looked up at them.
“Well?” Cye asked.
“She’s just fine.” Ryo reassured them. “She’s just really tired.”
“Yea, I’ll say. She fell right to sleep as soon as she hit her bed.” Christine said jokingly.
“Right, well I’m going to make some tea. Does anyone else want some?” Cye asked as he got up and started for the kitchen. Everyone said they’d like some and Cye left to go and make some. Ryo sat down in the recliner and furrowed his eyebrows in thought. He then looked over at Christine. She was sitting next to Rowen and was in the middle of flirting with him.
“Christine, do you know anything about why Katie’s so tired and why she didn’t get a lot of sleep last night?” Ryo asked hoping she could tell him something.
Christine stopped flirting with Rowen and turned to face Ryo. Huh-oh, what am I gonna tell him? I promised Katie I wouldn’t tell him and I hate going back on my word. Christine thought. On the other hand if I tell him then maybe when he does find out he won’t off on me too. He’s going to flip when he finds out about Katie’s nightmares. What am I thinking? She thought to herself.
“Christine?” Ryo said sounding annoyed.
Christine snapped out of her thoughts and met eyes with Ryo. She shook her head. “No, I don’t know anything about it.” She lied.
Ryo nodded and frowned again. Cye walked back into the living room with a tray and eight cups of hot tea on it. Setting the tray down on the coffee table in front of the couch, everyone grabbed a cup and said a thank you. Cye nodded and grabbed his own cup. He then sat back down next to Christine on the couch.
“Ok, well I think she couldn’t she couldn’t sleep or something and that’s why she didn’t get a lot of sleep. That would explain why she’s so tired.” Mia reasoned as she sipped at her tea.
“Yea, that makes sense. I don’t think its anything we should really worry about.” Rowen said.
Ryo nodded some, “Yea, you’re right. Ok well we need to go and practice.”
“Must we now, Ryo?” Christine asked. “Katie’s not awake yet, it won’t be fair.”
“Yes, Christine, we must now. We need to be ready, so that if someone were to attack we can be ready. Katie can practice when she gets up.” Ryo explained as he walked towards the door. Everyone got up and headed towards the door after him. They all walked out side, summoned their sub-armor and began training.
Katie tossed and turned in her bed. The nightmare was back she couldn’t seem to get out of it. Familiar pale green eyes watched from the window. The figure frowned and walked out from the shadows. The person had brown hair streaked blond with shaggy bangs. He was wearing a black muscle shirt with black pants and black combat boots.
The person walked over to her and brought one hand from his side. He then waved it over her. Instantly she stopped tossing and turning. The nightmare stopped and for once in three weeks she slept soundly. The figure then turned from her and vanished, reappearing on a tree branch a little ways from the Koji house. “I hope I’m not too late to stop what mustn't happen.” He said to himself. “I can’t let him take her again.” He then turned and vanished with a blink of an eye.
The Ronins and Christine were outside in Mia’s backyard practicing. As usual Rowen and Sage were teamed up, but this time Christine and Kento were teamed up while Cye and Ryo practiced together. With Katie not being there, the teaming up had to be done different. Cye wasn’t exactly happy about the teaming up, but wasn’t about to say anything to Ryo.
Christine stood in her light blue and silver Planet Star armor. She had her silver metal nun-chucks out and her and Kento were circling each other. Christine smirked some as she did. “Come on, Kento, just make your move already. Sheesh my grandma can move faster than ya.”
Kento chuckled and stopped circling her. “No, I think I’ll wait.”
“What’s the matter? Chicken?”
“No, I just let ladies go first. That’s all.”
“Well, don’t let me being a girl stop ya.”
“Ok, whatever you say, but your asking for it.” He said as his nanjinta at her. Christine easily blocked and swung her nun-chuck at him. Kento blocked and attacked her again. Christine ducked and tripped him. She then jumped back and looked at him.
“I win.” She said triumphantly.
“Yea, yea. Whatever you say.” Kento said as he got up.
Rowen notched an arrow and took aim. Sage stood with his nodatchi in hand. He watched him, not letting his eyes leave him. They both stood and looked at each other. Neither moving. Then Sage jumped up in the air and brought his nodatchi down on him. Rowen let go of the arrow he had notched and then used his bow to deflect Sage’s attack. Sage attacked him again and again. Then Rowen saw an opening and went for it. He used his bow to hit Sage in the abdomen, knocking him down.
“Dammit, Rowen that’s twice now.” Sage said angrily as he got up.
“Yea, so I know. What’s up with you. You’re leaving yourself way to open and your not focusing.” Rowen asked.
Sage shrugged in response. Rowen smirked some. He knew why. “Let me guess. Your minds on a certain brown hair beauty isn’t it?” He asked.
Sage blinked and then smiled. “Yea, how’d ya know? Is it that obvious?”
Rowen nodded and smirked. “I have a sixth sense about these kinds of things. Why don’t you just ask her out Sage? Don’t tell me you’re scared to.”
“I’m not sure. I think it’s the fact that she’s the first girl I’ve met that speaks her mind and doesn’t go all googoo over me.” Sage replied. “I’m afraid to Rowen.”
Rowen laughed some, “Yea, she certainly doesn’t do that. Ya know I’m not sure if she even likes you Sage.”
“Hey, well gee thanks Rowen. You know you’re a lot of help.” Sage said as he smirked at him.
“Hey, I’m not the one know as ‘flirt king’. Give me a break.” Rowen said defensively.
“Yea, ok I get it. I’ll ask Christine later. She is her best friend after all. Maybe she’ll know.” Sage reasoned as he stood up and readied his nodatchi.
“Yea, that would be a smart idea.” Rowen said and got ready for a major butt kicking from the kendo master. “Just don’t kill me now, ok?” Sage smirked and attacked him.
Ryo attacked Cye time after time. The Ronin of Torrent did all he could to just dodge and block. The Ronin leader was on a role and nothing could stop him. Attack after attack, blow after blow he went at him. Cye tried desperately to block them as they came at him. Using his yari to block an on coming attack from Ryo, he then flipped back away from the bearer of Wildfire.
Ryo smirked some and lowered his katanas. “What’s the matter, Cye? Too much for you?” He asked the smaller Ronin.
Cye smirked some at his remark. “No, not at all. I just had to catch my breath.” He replied to his question.
Ryo sighed and looked impatiently at his partner in training. The auburn hair Ronin stood catching his breath. Watching Ryo to make sure he didn’t surprise attack him. He caught his breath and the fight was on.
Katie woke from a wet sloppy tongue licking her face. “White Blaze!” She shouted at the large feline. White Blaze just stared at her with his brown eyes. She smiled some and wiped her face. She then looked over at her clock. It was a little after 7. She’d been asleep for almost four hours. Practice was long since over and it was time for dinner soon. She got up and walked over to her dresser. Still wearing her school uniform she decided she should change. Grabbing her gray baggy sweats that said #1 Gymnast on the left pant leg and a light blue spaghetti strap top. She took off her school uniform and put on the clothes she had grabbed from her dresser drawers. White Blaze lazily lay on the floor. Waiting for her to get done.
Katie finished and then looked at the lazy tiger lying on her floor. She smirked to herself and walked out of her room. Walking down stairs she found Kento and Ryo arm wrestling while Christine, Rowen and Sage stood by and watched. With a bang and laughter the bearer of Hardrock beat the Ronin leader. Katie laughed some and walked over to the five.
“I told ya I cold beat ya Ryo.” Kento gloated.
“Yea, yea whatever Kento” Ryo said flatly as he waved it off.
“Why don’t you see if you can beat me Kento?” Katie asked as she walked into the living room. Everyone turned to look at her. She sat down next to Ryo on the floor and looked at Kento who sat across from her.
“You’re on!” Kento said as he placed his right arm on the coffee table.
Katie smirked and placed her own arm on the glass coffee table. Taking Kento’s hand she said, “Go easy on me, k?”
“Yea, all right. I guess I could since you’re a girl.” He said and grinned.
Katie glared at him. “Veremos quién será el ganador. Whata ya say we get started?”
“Sounds good to me.”
“Ok you two ready?” Ryo asked and both nodded not taking their eyes off each other. “Ok then get ready ..... Set ..... Go!”
Katie and Kento both kept their eyes on each other as the arm-wrestled. They went back and forth. When one thought they had the other, the other one would get a boost of energy and try to get the other. Finally Katie got bored and nailed Kento.
“NOOOOOO!” Kento yelled as he watched Katie pin his arm down.
Ryo smirked at Kento, “What was that Kento?” Kento grumbled something he couldn’t understand.
Christine smiled and gave Katie a high five. “I think this ‘girl’ just beat you Kento.”
Kento crossed his arms over his chest and had a look like and-that-means-what-to-me. Cye and Mia walked into the living room right then to what all the commotion was about.
“What’s going on in here?” Mia asked, sounding annoyed.
“Ahhh ..... Katie beat Kento at an arm wrestling match.” Rowen stated.
“Ohh, well with as much noise that was coming from in here I thought White Blaze had eaten one of you.” Mia said. White Blaze hearing his name got up and walked over to Mia. Cye stifled a laugh. “Wait a minute did you say Katie did?” Mia asked.
Katie nervously smiled at her. “Ahh ... Hola, Mia.” She stammered.
“I should have known you’d be the cause of all this commotion.” Mia said as she placed her hands on her hips. “Well, what’s your excuse this time?”
“Ahh ... I beat Kento.” She said flashing her an innocent smile.
Mia sighed and threw her hands up in the air. “Katie Sanada you’re just like your brother. What am I going to do with you?”
“You can tie her up and send her down river.” Christine said jokingly earning her a glare from Katie.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing Mia. I'm not that bad am I?” Ryo asked innocently.
“I give up.” Mia said as she turned and walked back into the kitchen with Cye behind her. Katie laughed and gave Ryo a high five. The others just laughed and threw pillows at them.
