A Hidden Past
Chapter 5.
Dinner went as usual then everyone retired to his or her rooms. Christine and Katie were in their room getting ready for bed while Rowen and Sage were in the room next to them. Cye and Kento’s room was next to Rowen and Sage’s with Ryo’s on the end. Mia’s room was the first bedroom. The bathroom separated Kento and Cye’s room from Rowen and Sage’s.
Katie lay on her back looking up at her ceiling. She held her fluffy blue pillow in her arms. For some reason she didn’t feel safe. She didn’t know why, but she did. She got up and laid her pillow on her bed. Walking out of her room; leaving a very confused Christine alone.
She walked down the hall until she came to the last room. Knocking on the door she waited for a reply. “Come in.” Came a voice from the other side of the door. She opened the door cautiously and saw Ryo sitting on his bed finishing up some last minute homework. White Blaze was on the floor on the other side of him. She walked in closing the door behind her. Walking over to his bed she flopped down next to him.
“What cha doing?” She asked.
Ryo looked over at her just now noticing who it was that had come in. He smiled warmly at her and then turned back to his history book. “Last minute homework.”
“Oh.” Katie said, leaning over the bed to pet White Blaze. The huge tiger purred like a kitten. She smiled some. Ryo finished and closed the book. Setting it down on the night stand next to his bed he then looked over at his sister.
“So how can I help you oh dear little sister of mine?” Ryo said jokingly, getting a kick from Katie as a response. Katie sat up and looked at him.
“I wanted to know if I could barrow one of your t-shirts to sleep in.” She said.
Ryo nodded, “Yea, sure you can.” He said as he got up and walked over to his dresser. He pulled out a dark blue t-shirt that said Team Soccer and had a soccer ball on it in white letters. He tossed it to her and she caught it. He then walked back over to his bed and sat down. “Is that all you wanted?” He asked.
Katie nodded, “Yea, agradece un manojo. Thanks a bunch.” She said and kissed him on the cheek before getting up and walking towards the door. “Night.” She said and walked out of the door. Ryo shook his head and shut off his light.
Katie walked balk to her room with Ryo’s shirt in her hand. Walking back into her room she shut the door and then walked into her closet and took off her shirt. Putting on Ryo’s shirt she then walked back out. “Ohh, so that’s what you went to get.” Christine said.
Katie nodded and climbed into her bed. “Yea.” She said.
Christine frowned some knowing why she went and got one of his shirts. She turned off the light and lay down. “Night Katie.” She said.
“Night Chris.” She replied as she got comfortable. Feeling safe wearing something of her brothers she fell into a sound sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Dream~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She stood alone looking around an endless desert. “Hello!” She shouted. “Anybody here? Ryo? Chris? Sage? Rowen? Kento? Cye?” She called out as she looked around.
“Nobody can save you.” A voice said, as it seemed to some from every where.
“Who are you? Where are you?” She asked.
The voice laughed. “Silly girl! I’m everywhere.”
Katie spun around trying to find the person responsible for the voice. She found no one or anything. She then turned around and saw Ryo. “Ryo?” She asked. He nodded. She smiled and started walking over to him. Then that monster from her other nightmare showed up and she stopped walking. “Ryo watch out!” She shouted. Ryo turned around just to be slashed by the monster. He fell to the ground, not moving. “NOOOO!” She shouted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“NOOOO, RYO!” Katie screamed as she got out of her bed and ran for the door. Her scream woke the whole house. Everyone jumped out their beds and ran to her room. Katie came running out just in time to collide with Sage. She was shaking and crying. Sage and the others looked at her with worry and concern.
“Katie? What’s wrong sweetie?” Mia asked her soothingly. She didn’t respond to her, just looked around at everyone. Looking for one person in particular. Ryo came running up to the group just then.
“Katie, what’s wrong?” He asked as she kneeled down next to her.
Katie looked over at him and flew into his arms as new tears began to fall. Ryo held his sister, as he looked everyone. Katie held on to him for dear life as she cried.
“It was..... h-horrible..... R-Ryo.” She got out in between sobs.
“What was Kate?” Ryo asked as he held her head in his hands and looked at her.
“That .... t-thing .... h-he .... s-slashed .... you and .... y-you ... fell to .... t-the ground. Ohh Ryo you didn’t get back up!” She said as she buried her face in his chest again. Ryo frowned and stroked her hair, trying to calm her.
“It’s ok Katie. I’m right here; I’m just fine.” Ryo said soothingly. “No monster got me.”
Christine held her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing out loud as everyone else looked at each other and frowned. Seeing the youngest warrior of them shaken up like that worried them. After a few minutes, Katie’s sobs quieted to nothing as she fell asleep in Ryo’s arms. Ryo then picked her up and walking back in her room laid her gently in her bed. He stroked her hair and then placed a kiss on gently on her forehead before walking back out. As he walked up to the others he ran a hand through his unruly black hair.
“How is she?” Sage asked.
“She’s sleeping. I guess that was some nightmare, huh?” Ryo said trying to lighten the mood.
“Yea, well I’m going back to bed.” Kento said and walked towards his room.
“Yea, so am I.” Rowen said and followed suit.
“I have to get up in a couple hours.” Mia said. “Night.”
“I’m going to turn in too. Night mates.” Cye said and walked towards his room.
“Night Cye.” Christine said and yawned.
“It’s late and we’re obviously not going to get anything out of her tonight. I think we should all get some sleep. We have school in the morning.” Ryo said and walked towards his room.
“He’s got a point. Night Christine.” Sage said as he walked into his room and closed the door.
“Night.” Christine said as she walked into her room. She looked over at her now sleeping friend. Got into her bed and laid down. “Why don’t you just tell them, Katie?” Christine whispered and of course got no response. She sighed and closed her eyes, falling asleep.
The bell rang and everyone took their seats. Christine frowned at seeing that her friend wasn’t there yet. A small smile came to her lips thinking about her running through the doors late and getting detention. Yup, that’s what she’ll do. She thought. The sensei stood in front of the class. Looking around the room he noticed that Katie wasn’t present. “Does anyone know where Ms. Sanada is?” He asked.
As if to answer his question Katie came barging into the classroom. Everyone looked at her. A few snickered. Mr. Tenchiku looked at her and frowned. “A little late today don’t you think Ms. Sanada?”
“What can I say? I wasn’t in a hurry to get to your class.” She replied sarcastically getting a few snickers and laughs from the class. Mr. Tenchiku didn’t look impressed by what she said though.
“Not in a hurry huh? Well, maybe you’ll be after you spend sometime in after school detention.” He said and crossed his arms. Katie groaned and walked over to her seat. She sat down next to Christine who had a smug look on her face. “I’m warning you, don’t you dare say anything or you’ll regret it.” She warned.
“What? I was only going to ask you how you do it.”
“Do what?”
“Wake up late, get to school late and still look like a million bucks.”
“Ohh I don’t know.” She said as she cocked her head at her. “Just how I always look.”
“Yea, whatever.” Christine said and looked over at Cye. He smiled at her. Christine laughed some and shook her head. Getting comfortable she looked at the clock and wished that the class were already over.
Class ended and Christine, Katie, Cye walked out and headed for their next class. Second period Christine had with Katie. Walking into the classroom Katie and Christine sat down and talked some as they waited for the sensei. “I can’t believe you. Its so obvious he likes you.” Christine said.
“¿Quién? Who?” Katie asked.
“Sage!” Christine shouts at her. “You know, the hottest guy in our school. The same guy who lives in the same house as us.”
“Ohh.... big deal.” Katie said flatly.
“Big deal! Big deal?!” Christine said almost not believing what she had heard.
“Would you quiet down!” Katie whispered hoarsely at her as some kids turned to look at them. She smirked at them and they turned back around.
“I just don’t get you. If I had someone as hot as Sage who liked me, I’d be on that nice piece of ass like that.” She snaps her fingers to show her what she meant.
“So maybe I don’t care. Get a grip, Christine, ok.” Katie said to her as she looked around the room. “Gran dios, ninguna manera.”
“What?” Christine asked her 1/3 Hispanic, 1/4 American and 1/2 Japanese friend.
“It’s the boy from yesterday. The new kid.” Katie said as she pointed with her thumb at the guy who had just sat across from them. Christine looked over at him and clicked her tongue.
“Wow, he’s hot.” She said.
Katie pinched and glared at her. “Consiga verdadero. Get real ok. I got a really strange feeling from him yesterday.”
“What kind of feeling?” Christine asked.
“I don’t know, like I’ve met him before..... strange, huh?” Katie replied as she blinked confusedly.
“Yea, ok. You have officially crossed over to the loony bin.” Christine said and eyed they new guy.
Class started and everyone prepared to be bored. Christine kept glancing over at the new boy. Every time she did, she noticed that he hadn’t moved. it was like he was a zombie or just zoned out. So a shy one huh? She thought. Well, the shy ones are always the cutest ones. She reasoned as she thought of Cye. She laughed some to herself.
Katie sat in her seat totally baffled by what she had felt. How can I know him if I just met him yesterday? She asked herself. I couldn’t have known or met him before yesterday. It’s just not possible.
“Ms. Sanada.” The sensei said, sounding annoyed. Katie immediately snapped out of her thoughts and looked over at him. By the way he looked he had said her name quiet a few times.
“Yes?” She said coolly as she crossed her legs and sat back in her chair. Christine rolled her eyes. Here it comes, detention number two. She thought. The sensei seemed amused by her comment and merely chuckled.
“Yes, nice little comment, Ms. Sanada. I’m so happy to see that you’re still on top of your game.” He said sarcastically.
“Yea and so am I.” She replied getting some ‘ooos’ from the guys in the back.
“Now then, can you answer the question?” He asked.
“What question would that be?” Came the reply from her. Snickers could be heard from some more kids.
The sensei merely smirked some and rested his chin on his hand in thought. “You know, I think there’s a detention with your name on it.”
“I’m sorry but you must phrase your sentences in some form of a question.” She replied sarcastically. More laughter came from the class. All seeming to be glad to have some kind of action for once.
“Ok then Ms. Sanada. I’m guessing this will make two detentions today?” He asked.
“Ahhh .... yea it will be.” She stammered, loosing her coolness. Christine smacked her forehead. Nice job, Katie. She thought to herself.
“That’s what I thought. Now do you want to try for three?” The sensei asked her.
She smirked cockily at him, “Why not.”
“Ok, that makes three. Want to try for four?”
Katie opened her mouth to say something when Christine pinched her arm hard. She shut her mouth and shook her head no.
“Good now as I was saying.” He said as he continued to teach.
Katie rubbed her arm and glared daggers at Christine. Christine held her hands up defensively, “Hey I was just saving your butt from getting a lecture from Ryo, which may I remind you already are for those three detentions you have.”
Katie glared at her but didn’t say anything. She knew she was right and she mentally slapped herself. Good going Katie. You just had to mouth off to him, didn’t you? She asked herself. I think its more like, when can I ever keep my big mouth shut? She smirked at the question and sank down in her chair.
Ceto smiled to himself and looked over at he fore half a second before he looked back over at the Sensei. Yup, same old, same old. She hasn’t changed one bit. He thought to himself. I’m afraid that her cockiness and sarcasm isn’t going to save her though. Its going to take more then that. I guess I will have to keep a closer eye on her. He thought as he listened to the Sensei ramble on.
School had just ended and all our young heroes walked out of the school. Well some ran, hopped and skipped out, but we won’t go into that. Kento jumped the last few steps as he raced over to the car. Cye chuckled some at his friends’ behavior and followed after him. Rowen walked over to the car with his nose stuck in a book. How he could read and walk at the same time is a mystery to me. Ryo kept close to Katie as she walked and talked with Christine and Sage. Ever since last nights episode he had been keeping a close eye on her.
They were all leaving late because of Katie’s detention and no one was in the parking lot. Only a few other cars still remained. At least they thought.
“Hey Katie I was thinking ....” Sage started as he stopped when he noticed she wasn’t walking next to him anymore. Instead she was standing still and looking around.
“What is it Katie?” Christine asked as she, too, looked around. She couldn’t see anything, but sensed something. A strong evil presence. Katie looked over in the direction of four of the cars and smirked.
“Come on out! I know your there!” She shouted in that direction. No one moved and nothing happened.
Christine scratched her head, “Ahh ... I think your loosing it, Katie.”
“No, she’s not. I can feel it. It’s close by.” Sage said as he looked around.
Cye and Kento looked over at their four friends and shrugged. Kento then looked over at Rowen who was still reading his book and took it from him.
“Hey!” Rowen shouted, “Gimmie that back!”
Kento smirked and pointed over at the other four. “Pay attention.”
Rowen smirked back, but looked over at the others. Frowning he asked, “What’s going on?” Kento stifled a laugh while Cye sighed.
“I think they sensed something.” He answered.
“I wish they’d hurry up..... I’m hungry.” Kento whined.
“Your always hungry, Kento.” Cye shot back.
“So .... point is?” He asked.
“Point is, stop your whining.” Cye replied.
Kento crossed his arms and glared as he mumbled things to himself. Rowen snickered and as a result got a death glare from him. Quickly he stopped and looked back over at the others.
Katie smirked inwardly and walked towards the cars. She hadn’t taken two steps when a hand grabbed her arm, stopping her from going any further. “Hey!” She shouted, “What's the big deal?” The hand belonged to Ryo who looked sternly at her and kept a strong but gentle grasp on her arm.
“Where do you think your going?” He asked her.
“Ahh ... duh! I thought it was obvious. To go and see if there is anyone over there.” She said sarcastically as she pointed at the cars.
“Oh, no you’re not.” He said, not letting go of her arm.
“Oh, yes I am.”
“Over my dead body.”
“Ryo! Why not?”
“For lots of different reasons.”
“Name one.”
“One because I don’t want you to go over and check to see if there’s something over there and especially not after what happened last night.”
“Ryo, I’m not a baby! I have an armor for Christ sake!”
“Yea and so do I. I'm also the leader and your older brother and I say no.”
Katie growled and stomped her foot. “Ohhh! ¡Pare el ser tan excesivamente protector! Would you stop being so damn protective!”
“I can’t, it’s my job. Its called being a big brother.”
“No, its called being an ass and an overly protective one at that.”
“Call it whatever you want, but your still not.”
“Wanna bet on that?”
“Yea I do.”
“You know, you really shouldn’t bet me.”
“Whys that?”
“Because you’ll lose.”
“Is that so?”
“Yea, that’s so.”
“We’ll, see about that.”
While Ryo and Katie were having a sibling rivalry something happened. Out of nowhere these mutant creatures came and started attacking the others. Quickly they all called forth their sub armor and began to fight them. Teaming up in pairs Kento, Cye, Rowen and Sage took on the mutants one at a time while Christine took them on by herself. Using their sharp claws and spiked tails the mutants fought them.
Kento and Cye teamed up and seemed to be having no trouble taking them down. Kento took down mutant after mutant. Attacking one while he blocked another. Kicked one in the stomach and dodged a death slash from another. He then quickly sidestepped and watched as it rammed into another and they both went down. He laughed at how stupid they were, but had to dodge another attack.
“Is that the best you got?” He taunted as he blocked and punched the mutant into a tree, where it fell motionless to the ground. “And another one goes down! How ya doing, Cye?”
Cye looked as if he were fighting for his life by the way he kicked and punched them. He punched on in the head while he kicked another and then he had to dodge an attack from another one. Getting out of the way just before the razor sharp claws came down on him, tearing him to shreds. He flipped back, out of breath and getting tired. He eyed the rest of them as he caught his breath. Catching his breath he said, “Just fine.” He watched as the bearer of Hardrock tossed some more of the mutants around like rag dolls.
“Good.” Came the response from Kento.
