Forever Suiko

Chapter 13.
Shades of Darkness & Light

"… of the Ancient's, I will not die without a fight!" Sai finished, releasing an extraordinary attack at the Mutant. His hand undid from the firm grasp and injured him once more. The Mutant laid flat on the ground, breathing hard; but this tin-man got up… and was still ready for another attack. A mere sight of blood dropped from the side of his mouth as he collapsed to the floor. He could not die. Why would he die… and now? He was young! This could not be…
"SAI!" a voice called. It was Rowen's. Sai heard a few of his other Ronin friends and his eyes peered over his shoulder. Rowen stopped his run and then repeated, "SAI…!" His eyes watched as the Mutant prepared for his behind-the-back attack. Rowen shook his head, fiercely and stammered, "No… no… SAI!" He rushed at Sai and a shield penetrated over them just as the attack was to Sai's head. This was an unsightly moment. So ugly… that you could have been sure Sai was dead. But it was not him who was it. It was Rowen. Rowen of the Strata. Blood was now visible in the battle scene and most of it was from Sai and Rowen.
Sai moaned and then put his arm on Rowen's shoulder. He scolded at him, but rather weakly, "Ro… why… WHY did you… do… that?"

"Because Sai…" Rowen began, "you had saved me twice. And how else am I to repay you?"

"Ro… don't leave me now. I did not ask for your life," Sai pleaded, shaking him a little. Rowen took Sai's hand from his shoulder and said, "Maybe the old cherry blossom may be luckier than the newer one. What comes around… must go around."
Kento shouted, "Ro! Sai! Are you guys all right? Speak to me!" He was afraid Sai and all his friends won't make it this time. But something struck him like a lightning bolt. Did Rowen say, "… the old cheery blossom may be luckier than the newer one"? This must had meant more than what he thought. Even his little head could sense it. His eyes opened, widely, as he heard some loud noises.
"Yeah, you guys are worrying us! Why… WHAT THE…?" Sage cried but then exclaimed. The Mutant's energy was no matter what increasing. Why was Rowen acting so protective now? Sage then heard a boom. It was neither an attack nor a truck falling down from the sky. They were the midnight fireworks and only 100 were going to be launched as a celebration. His eyes peered as he saw Sai's eyes turned to fear.
Ryo clenched to his weapon. Those booms were frightening Sai (much more than when he was fighting the Mutant). He then was tracing back sudden memories. Now some of the pieces looked clear. Sai began with the sudden dream of this same guy attacking him. Then, he remembers when Sai got sick but had energy in him to save everyone from that crash and to fight this Mutant. But where did it all came from? Ryo's head nodded when also remembering the time Sai alerted his kanji.

There must had been more to that that he and the rest did not know, and most certainly something Sai didn't know as well.
Sai did not understand this poem. He could not for some reason. Not until he heard Kento's strong voice, "Rowen… do not say that. You won't Rowen… you won't."

Sai became confused, "What?"

The Mutant could not move from the blazing light… but it was cackling as, one by one, the fireworks were launched. This was number 23. Kento shook his head. He was almost to tears!

"Rowen!" he begged, "I am sorry… I cannot leave this inside of me for long! Why can't I die? Why not me? Not YOU!" Kento fell to his knees as his kanji lit "Justice." Sai's hair blew as the rush of orange demystified inside him. It felt warm inside.
Rowen's head shook, "No… I did not say that. No… I did not. He is not the one to… KENTO!" He stood up as he stomped, hitting against Sai's arm but not noticing Sai's shriek.
Kento cried, "It is your fault, Rowen! Because of you, you had to bring him to this end! He's hopeless because of you, hopeless!" Then, the sudden warmness disappeared and the light came back to Kento.

Ryo stood in front of Kento, just before he could say anything else, "Kento is dead right Rowen! Even with ALL of our powers and minds he cannot be healed! This is because of you!" A red light from Sai vanished and now was back to Ryo.
Rowen argued, "What has gone wrong with you? You think I DON'T care?"

Sage, also, stepped forward, glaring, "That's right. You created this Mutant to bring him to the death! Think I do not know now? You are only 'pretending' to act protective just to bring him to it!" Then a green glow left Sai. Rowen stepped back from them, slowly retreating, shaking his head in disbelief. An slowly, the Mutant disappeared and so had the other 'creations.'
Sai felt coldness around him. He felt sick and felt like it was his end. He had used all of his power to fight Rowen's creations. HOW COULD ROWEN BE SO EVIL?
