Sage of the Elves
Chapter 2: New Girl
Sage woke up on Sunday morning, feeling relieved. There was no dream last night.
"Must've been something I was eating," he thought.
The weather was much better today, much to everyone's delight. The day before, Mia had made them help her clean the house. But today, she wouldn't be able to use the weather as an excuse to make them do chores.
By afternoon, everyone had his or her plans for the day. Ryo and Kento were going to see "The Lord of the Rings" movie for the billionth time, Sai was going to the pet shop to check out fish stuff for his aquarium, and Sage, Rowen, and Yulie were going to the park.
The park was just built a little while ago. It was really big, just outside the city near a forest, with swings, slides, and a lake for fishing (but not quite as big as Mia's though).
When Sage, Rowen, and Yulie got there, Sage went over and sat down on a bench, with a book in his hand.
"Aren't you gonna play frisbee with me and Rowen?" Yulie called to him.
"Yeah, I just want to finish this chapter real quick," Sage replied.
While Rowen tried to help Yulie throw a frisbee accurately, Sage began to feel uneasy, like someone was watching him. He turned around, but there was no one else in the park besides him, Rowen and Yulie.
"Man, what is up with me?" he thought, frustrated. He continued to read.
Little did he know, there actually was someone watching him.
"I don't believe what I'm seeing!" a cold voice shrieked at a crystal ball. The voice belonged to a woman with black hair that reached to the floor, and red eyes. She was wearing a long, purple dress.
" My lady Galena, what is it?" the crystal ball responded.
"The prince! He's alive! How can this be!"
"But my lady, he doesn't know he's the prince. If he doesn't know…how is he any threat?"
"Don't be stupid! His dreams! His memories are slowly returning! If you and I are able to sense this, then that means the other elves will eventually sense it too, and know he's alive! I must kill him before he can claim his throne!"
Back at the park…
Sage suddenly stopped reading, and looked toward the forest. All of a sudden, a vision came.
A woman with long, black hair was riding around frantically on a horse.
"Anyone who stands in our way will be destroyed! The king and his family will pay for banishing me from the forest!" the woman announces. Her warriors were rushing in, slaying anyone who tried to fight back or stood in the way of the woman. People were dropping dead everywhere. The woman threw back her head and laughed.
"NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!" Sage yelled.
Rowen came running over to Sage.
"Sage what's the matter?" he asks. He looks at the book in Sage's hands.
"Yeah, I've read that book too. I know how you feel. I couldn't believe it either…" Rowen begins but is cut off.
"Huh? What? Oh, it's not the book. Rowen…" Sage stops. "Should I tell him about these dreams and visions?" he thinks to himself.
Rowen frowns. "What is it, Sage?"
Just then, Yulie came running over.
"Hey Rowen! Why'd you run off?" Yulie asks. He looks at Sage. "Why are you all pale, Sage? Are you okay?"
"It's nothing, Yulie. I…I'll tell you later, okay?" Sage smiles at Yulie.
Later that day when they got back to the house, everyone was already there. Sai had bought a castle for his aquarium, and an awesome rainbow-colored fish.
"Isn't it cool? They were on sale too," Sai said happily.
After supper, Sage was in his room studying for a Chemistry test. There came a knock at the door.
"Sage? It's me, Rowen," he whispers.
"Come in," Sage replies. Rowen came in, and sat down on Sage's bed.
"I hope I'm not intruding, but I thought now would be a good time to explain what happened," Rowen said.
Sage explained to Rowen the dreams he had been having, and the vision he had received today. While Sage talked, Rowen sat staring hard at Sage.
"Weird. I don't really know what to say. It could mean something, but it's hard to tell at the moment. For one thing, none of these dreams have any evidence of anything true, or have happened, if you know what I mean? But tell me more if these dreams and visions continue," was all Rowen could say.
"Okay, but I don't want to tell the guys about any of this yet. For now, it'll be just between you and me," Sage said.
"Deal. But if things start getting more serious, they should know too. It could be something from the Dynasty, you know?" Rowen replied.
"Yeah."
After Rowen left, Sage went back to his studying. "Something from the Dynasty? That's probably the last thing I want it to be," he said to himself.
That night, Sage had another dream. It almost seemed like a repeat of the vision he had earlier that day. Except this time, things were getting confusing and hard to follow. After Sage saw the woman on the horse laughing, he saw in the distance a man and a woman running from the riot, carrying what looked like a baby. They disappeared in the thickness of the trees. Then, the dream shifts, and Sage sees the evil woman in a castle dungeon, with a man that looked all too familiar…
"Kale, chain her up. I'll deal with her later. I have some business to attend to with Talpa," the woman says, and walks off.
"Yes, lady Galena," Kale says.
When Kale left, Sage could see a girl with pointy ears, about his age, her ankle chained to an iron ball. She had a long blond braid, and beautiful blue eyes. Her white dress was torn and smeared with mud. She sat, with her legs drawn up to her chest, and tears were rolling down her cheeks. Then she said something Sage could hardly make out.
"Please…Sage, help me," she whispered to herself. The dream faded away.
Monday morning. Sage woke up in a daze, completely lost. He looked at the clock, and realized he was running behind schedule for school. He quickly got dressed and ran downstairs.
"Sage, where have you been? The guys are already on their way to school!" Mia cried.
"No time to explain, Mia," Sage said. He grabbed a piece of toast, said good-bye to her, and ran to catch up with his friends.
Sage had just gotten in his seat when the second bell rang.
"That was close," he thought.
"Sleep in late?" teased Ryo, who was sitting right behind him.
"Yeah," Sage replies.
"Sage, did you have a dream?" Rowen whispered to him. Rowen was sitting on the left of Sage.
"Yeah, I'll tell you later about it," he said.
The teacher walked in with a smile on her face.
"Class, we have a new student with us today. Her name is Lina. Please make her feel welcome and help her around."
When the girl walked into the classroom, Sage thought he was going to have a heart attack. She had a long blond braid, beautiful blue eyes…
"Sage, what's wrong? You look sick," Rowen whispered.
"Rowen, she was in my dream!" Sage whispered back.
